Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the 1 February 2021 coup, a total of (6,419) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians, have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. 

Since the coup, a total of (28,901) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power. (22,116) are currently in detention, (10,689) of whom are serving sentences. 

These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.

According to the data collected by AAPP, from January 1 to March 20, 2025, (34) people in total; (3) women and (31) men, were killed by the junta’s gunfire across the country, including (1) child under the age of 18 and (8) people over 60, one of which was a woman aged 93 years old. The identities of these victims have been verified. Among the (34) deceased, Magway Region records the highest number of fatalities with (14) people killed, followed by (6) in Bago Region.

On the afternoon of March 11, Ran Zan Khan and his son from Myeik Township were traveling to Tanintharyi Township, Tanintharyi Region, to go shopping. While passing a junta checkpoint near Yae Hpyu Village, junta forces opened fire on them. Although the son was unharmed, the father was shot in the arm and stomach. On March 12, Ran Zan Khan was transferred from Tanintharyi Township Public Hospital to Myeik Public Hospital for treatment. On March 14, at approximately 8 p.m., he succumbed to his injuries.
