Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup

Since the February 1, 2021 coup, a total of (4,157) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed by the junta and pro-military groups during the Spring Revolution. In addition to the total fatality figure, AAPP has documented around (500) deceased persons whose names are unknown and still need to be verified.
Since the coup, a total of (25,344) people have been arrested by the junta in relation to its seizure of power, (19,623) are currently in detention, (7,847) of whom are serving sentences.
There are a total of (120) post-coup death row prisoners as of October 25, 2023. (119) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (43) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (163) people who have been sentenced to death. (5,721) people have already been released.
These are the numbers verified by AAPP. The actual numbers are likely much higher. We will continue to update accordingly.
According to the data collected by the AAPP, from January to October 25, 2023, (293) women were killed by the junta across the country with (97) women were killed due to the junta’s artillery attacks. Among the (293) deceased, Sagaing Region records the highest number of deaths, totalling (152) within the region.
In addition, during the stated period, (513) women were arrested by the junta across the country, with Mandalay Region recording the highest number of arrests with (95) people.
Moreover, during the stated period, (263) women were given prison sentences under specious charges by courts subservient to the junta and still detained in prisons across the country with Sagaing Region recording the highest number of sentences with (138) people. Among (263) sentences, (16) people have been given life imprisonment, (4) people have been given death penalty and (1) people have been given both life imprisonment and death penalty.
